Please Stop the Rollercoaster! virtual discussion
group
Thousands of parents from across the country have participated in our parent
discussion groups, and now you can do it on the telephone from your own home.
Here are the DATES and DETAILS:
- 4-session discussion group program
- facilitated by program creator Sue Blaney
- Thursday evenings April 16, 23 and 30, and May 7, 2009
- 8:00 pm eastern time
- Program fee includes a copy of Please Stop the Rollercoaster!
- Participants will read one
chapter (25 - 30 pages) in advance of each meeting and Sue will lead the group
discussion about applying this knowledge in your family.
- Group size will be
limited to maximize individual participation.
- No lost time commuting; all you do is call in from the comfort of your
own home.
- Your telephone charges will be your own responsibility.
THIS PROGRAM WILL HELP YOU:
- connect with other parents as you examine the range of issues you are
likely to face,
- learn from the experts about adolescent behavior - what's normal and
why,
- improve communication with your teenagers,
- understand the importance of friends and the impact our culture has
on your teens,
- see how your behavior impacts your teen's involvement in risky
behaviors,
- discuss key issues before being faced with a crisis,
- examine your changing role and learn how you can best support your
growing teen.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
- This group will be open to all parents of teens in grades 7, 8 and 9.
- We will record all the telephone meetings so you can listen to the
recording if you have to miss a meeting.
- However, one objective of this program is to develop relationships with
others in the group, in order to do that you really need to attend and
participate. This is a discussion in which we hope it will be your intention
to participate; it is not a lecture.
- This learning and discussion program is designed for typical
parents with typical teens. It is not appropriate for families facing
serious issues of drug abuse, eating disorders or other major issues that
require professional assistance.
- This is not a therapy group. It is not expected or required that parents
will share confidential and/or private issues.
- It will be agreed that we will maintain and respect confidentiality of
all group members, in case private information is shared.
- Participants will have the choice to participate under a pseudonym or to
use your real name.
- I don't tell parents how to parent. All beliefs and values are
respected; I believe you have what it takes to parent your teen, we begin
there and build on that.
- The $59.00 fee includes the price of the book, Please Stop the
Rollercoaster! How Parents of Teenagers Can Smooth Out the Ride. (list
price $29.95)
- For our telephone discussions, we will meet weekly:
Dates:
Thursday evenings: April 16, 23, 30 and May 7.
8:00 pm eastern time
- Each telephone discussion will begin at 8:00 pm eastern time, and will take
60 -90 minutes. (We will decide as a group how much time feels right.)
- Between our telephone meetings, participants will be encouraged to
continue discussions online in our private community area.
- Spouses may join free of charge and are expected to keep up with the
reading.
*for those of you who would prefer to join a group where you can commit for a
shorter duration, we will begin other styles of virtual discussion groups very
shortly. S
