For Parents of Teenagers:

How Parents of Teenagers Can Smooth Out the Ride Often parents of teenagers feel the ups and downs of this life stage as much as their teens do. We will examine what makes this a challenging time for parents, and identify specific activities and approaches parents can use that will smooth out their ride. Parents will gain the following:

  • Identify actions they can take to smooth out their parenting ups and downs
  • Learn about "parental development"
  • Specific points about adolescent development
  • A framework for the most beneficial parenting style
  • Concrete knowledge about how parents' behavior impacts teens and risky behavior
  • Insight into the adolescent experience from the eyes of a teenager.
  • The knowledge that they are not alone

De-Mystifying Teenagers: What Parents Need to Know Parents are often puzzled by their teenagers, not understanding the changes and behavior that they witness. In this discussion we focus on:

  • The forces that drive teenage behavior
  • Adolescent development - and what parents need to understand
  • How smart parents respond, and why parenting style matters
  • (This can be customized for middle school or high school age teens.)

For Educators in Schools and Faith Communities:

Reaching Difficult-to-Reach Parents: Sometimes educators are frustrated by a low level of parent involvement. In this program we will:

  • Examine the factors that impact parents' level of involvement in their teen's education,
  • Learn about the parents' points of view, needs and issues,
  • Identify strategies educators can employ to positively impact these factors,
  • Focus on communication tactics that can be employed to improve parent participation and knowledge.

  • Clarify the needs and attitudes of many parents of teenagers
